Fill valve, flapper & overflow
A refill is a symptom. Find what is losing water.
The fill valve refills the tank after a flush. The flapper seals the flush opening; the overflow provides a separate route into the bowl.
A toilet that starts filling without a flush may be replacing water escaping through the flush seal. Water rising into the overflow points to a different adjustment or fill-valve problem.

The flange anchors the toilet to the floor and connects it to the drain. A compatible seal closes the space around the toilet outlet. The toilet bowl already contains its own trap.
We trace the leak and inspect the toilet’s flange, mounting bolts and supporting floor. The repair needs to leave the toilet steady and the drain seal evenly supported.

The stopper controls the basin opening. Wastewater passes through the tailpiece and P-trap; the trap retains a water seal. A vent protects that seal as the drain flows.
For a slow drain, we inspect the stopper and trap before following the branch into the wall. For a leak, we trace water along the joints while the basin drains.

The valve behind the handle mixes hot and cold water. A pressure-balancing valve reacts when pressure changes in either supply, helping steady the mix when another fixture runs. A thermostatic valve senses the mixed-water temperature and adjusts the blend.
We check both supplies and the valve mechanism, then measure the water temperature at the showerhead. The handle’s limit stop sets how far it can turn toward hot; it needs checking after valve service.

The drain shoe and overflow join before one P-trap. The overflow opening has its own gasket behind the tub wall.
We test the faucet supply, tub drain, overflow opening and wall enclosure separately. That reveals whether water is escaping from a pressurized connection, a drain gasket or the surfaces around the tub.

What counts as bathroom plumbing repair?
Bathroom plumbing includes toilets, faucets, sinks, tub and shower valves, drains, supply connectors and shutoff valves. We also investigate leaks around or behind those fixtures. Tile, waterproofing, structural floor damage and electrical ventilation can require coordination with another trade.
Do you give pricing before starting bathroom work?
Yes. Flat-rate pricing is the standard — you get the number, sign off, and the work starts. If the work uncovers something extra (a corroded angle stop that breaks while being closed, a rotted subfloor under the toilet, a cracked flange under the wax ring), the work pauses, you see it, and you decide before any added cost.
Can I text photos of my bathroom plumbing issue before booking?
Yes — photos save a ton of guesswork. Photo of the fixture, photo of the underside or behind it if accessible, and a close-up of where the leak or damage is. If you know the brand of the toilet, faucet, or shower valve, that info up front speeds the right-parts conversation.
Do you charge a service fee just to come look?
Send photos and describe the problem so we can discuss the work and whether a visit is needed. We explain any diagnostic charge before scheduling.
How quickly can you come out for bathroom plumbing work?
Availability depends on the schedule and the work involved. Call or text for current options, especially if water is spreading or a fixture will not shut off. Do not keep using an actively leaking fixture while waiting.
My toilet keeps running — can you fix it?
Yes. We distinguish water escaping through the flush seal from a fill valve that fails to stop at the correct level, refill-tube issues and other tank faults. Inspect the tank’s water level, fill valve and flush seal to identify the leak.
Can you replace a toilet?
Yes. We check the toilet’s fit, water shutoff, drain flange and supporting floor, then set and test it with the right seal. A damaged flange or soft floor needs attention so the new toilet stays stable and sealed.
My toilet is wobbly or rocks when I sit on it — is that a problem?
Rocking stresses the drain seal and mounting, so the toilet needs a stability and connection check. Loose hardware, an uneven floor, a damaged flange or a weakened subfloor can be involved. Avoid using an unstable toilet and do not overtighten the bolts.
My toilet won't flush properly — weak flush, partial flush, multiple flushes?
A weak flush can involve the tank water level, refill or flush parts, blocked rim passages, or a restriction in the toilet or drain. We evaluate how it fills and flushes before selecting a repair. Stop flushing if the bowl rises toward overflow.
Can you replace a wax ring or toilet flange?
Yes. We trace the water first because the tank and supply can also leak onto the floor. If the base connection has failed, we lift the toilet, inspect its flange and floor, and restore a stable, sealed connection.
My shower valve drips or won't shut off — can you fix it?
Often. A worn cartridge, stem or seal can let water pass after the handle is closed. We identify the valve and matching parts, then check whether the body is sound enough to repair. We can also check available parts coverage with the manufacturer.
My shower won't get hot — what's wrong?
Check whether other hot taps work normally. If they do, we start with the shower’s hot supply, cartridge and temperature control. If every fixture is cold, we follow the problem back toward the water heater.
My shower scalds me — anti-scald protection?
Stop using a shower that becomes dangerously hot. We check both incoming supplies, the valve’s pressure or temperature protection, and its handle limit stop. Testing the water leaving the head shows whether the repair has restored controlled temperature.
Can you fix a leaky tub spout or diverter?
Yes. Dripping with the valve off, leaking at the wall connection and water continuing from the spout while showering have different causes. We check the valve, spout attachment and diverter, then repair the confirmed fault.
Can you replace a shower head or hand-held wand?
Yes. We check the shower arm and connection, then fit and test the replacement. For a weak spray, we first look for buildup in the head or hose and check the flow reaching it.
My bathroom sink drains slowly — what is that?
Hair and buildup around the stopper or trap are common possibilities, along with a restriction farther along the branch. We inspect the assembly and select the appropriate access and clearing method. Tell us about any chemical cleaner already in the drain.
Why does my bathroom smell like sewer?
Possible causes include a dry or compromised trap seal, a toilet connection problem, or a drainage or venting defect. If a rarely used fixture is otherwise sound, restoring water to its trap may help; persistent odor needs investigation.
Can you handle bathroom plumbing for a remodel or new fixture install?
Yes. Choose the fixtures and their locations before walls and tile are finished. We plan the supply, drain and vent routes, set concealed valves at the correct depth, and coordinate the required tests and inspections with the project.
Do you install customer-supplied bathroom fixtures?
Yes. Before installation, confirm dimensions, connection requirements, included parts and compatibility with the existing plumbing. Shower trim must match the concealed valve it is designed for. We explain any missing parts or additional work before proceeding.
Do you upgrade shutoff valves and supply lines under bathroom fixtures?
Yes. During fixture work, we check whether its shutoff closes and whether the valve or supply connector leaks. A worn or damaged connection is easier to replace while that area is already accessible.
My exhaust fan is dumping moisture in the attic — is that plumbing?
An exhaust fan is part of the ventilation system. Discharging humid bathroom air into an attic can damage the building. The duct should discharge outdoors through an appropriate termination; a qualified ventilation contractor can assess the route and installation.
Do you work with insurance for bathroom leak claims?
Mountain Man Plumbing can document the work and provide invoices, photos, and cause-of-loss notes for insurance claims (especially when a wax ring or supply line leak has caused subfloor or ceiling damage), but doesn't bill insurance directly. You pay for the work and submit to your carrier for reimbursement where covered.
What should I do before the plumber arrives for bathroom work?
Clear safe access under the sink and around the fixture. Note the symptoms, timing and any products used in the drain. Stop using a leaking fixture. Only close a working, safely accessible shutoff; do not force a stuck valve or approach wet electrical equipment.
Can you help if I do not know where my main water shutoff is?
Yes. We can locate the house shutoff, check its operation and show you how to use it. A leak on the service pipe before that valve needs help from the water provider or plumber to isolate it farther upstream.
