A bidet seat adds washing to the toilet you already have. A small tee supplies clean water, a mounting plate holds the seat, and the wand extends for washing. Electric versions add features such as warm water, seat heat and drying.

The shutoff and supply hose bring in clean water. Tank valves control the flush and refill. The bowl’s built-in trapway leads to the sealed floor connection.

The porcelain toilet and bidet-seat exteriors use Kohler’s K-31648 and K-8298 CAD geometry in inches. The toilet has a 12-inch rough-in and a 16½-inch bowl rim. We built the working tank parts, supply connection and floor assembly for this teaching model. The bowl view traces the water route; colored water makes its movement visible. The flush cycle is shortened for the demonstration.

Bidet seat: This elongated PureWash seat mounts to the toilet’s seat holes. It receives clean supply water and electrical power for washing and other features.
Retracting wash wand: The wand extends from the seat housing and directs a wash stream upward. Stopping the wash ends the stream and retracts the wand.
Bidet supply tee: A gasketed tee at the tank inlet divides the clean-water supply between the toilet fill valve and bidet seat. The seat hose runs from its side outlet.
GFCI-protected power: The electric seat plugs into a grounded outlet with ground-fault protection. The GFCI interrupts power if it detects an electrical imbalance.
Toilet shutoff & supply hose: The local valve isolates the toilet. A flexible connector carries cold drinking water up to the fill-valve inlet beneath the tank.

Start with the shape of the toilet.

Match round or elongated bowl shape, the mounting-hole spacing and the room between the holes and tank. Skirted toilets and some one-piece designs need particular mounting hardware. The manufacturer’s fit chart helps check the exact combination.

Our model pairs a Kohler Cimarron elongated toilet with the PureWash E590, K-8298. Kohler lists this seat family as compatible with elongated Cimarron toilets.

Check the whole fit

The seat should sit squarely on its bumpers, its lid should open clear of the tank, and the supply connections should remain reachable.

One supply, two destinations.

The tee fits at the toilet’s fill-valve inlet. One path continues into the tank; the other feeds the bidet seat. Gaskets seal the connections. The seat receives potable water directly from the supply, and used wash water falls into the bowl.

Non-electric seats and attachments

These use household water pressure and manual controls. Many provide an unheated wash; warm-water designs have their own connection requirements.

Electric bidet seats

These need both water and an appropriate electrical supply. A GFCI detects an electrical imbalance and interrupts power to reduce shock risk. The K-8298 instructions call for a dedicated, grounded GFCI-protected outlet.

Built-in protection

Use the manufacturer’s complete approved connection kit and backflow protection. Keep the supplied tee, hose and seals matched to the seat.

Extend. Wash. Retract.

Select “Bidet seat” in the model and run a wash demo. The wand moves out from its housing and directs a small wash stream upward. Stop ends the stream and returns the wand. The real K-8298 has front and rear wash settings, position adjustment and an occupied-seat sensor.

A weak spray

An inlet filter or spray tip can collect mineral deposits. The K-8298 guide explains filter cleaning and how to extend the wand for cleaning.

Seat removal for cleaning

A release lets this seat slide off its mounting plate. Keep slack in the hose and cord so moving the seat does not strain either connection.

Water near a connection

Stop using the wash function and close the water supply. A loose or damaged tee, gasket or hose needs attention before normal use resumes.

What we plan before installation.

We check seat compatibility, the toilet shutoff, the supply hose, mounting access and the route for the bidet hose. Electric models also need the outlet specified by their instructions; any new electrical work is coordinated separately. The installation ends with leak checks and a test of the wash and stop controls.

Will a bidet seat fit my existing toilet?

Many round or elongated toilets accept a matching seat. Bowl shape, tank clearance and mounting-hole access determine the fit. Send the toilet and seat model numbers before buying.

Does a bidet need a hot-water pipe?

Many electric seats heat their incoming cold water internally. Non-electric models vary: some provide an unheated wash and some use a separate warm-water connection.

Why does the bidet not spray when nobody is sitting on it?

Many electric models have an occupied-seat sensor. It allows the normal wash controls to operate when the seat is in use. Cleaning modes can extend the wand separately, as described in the seat manual.
