We got called to a Salt Lake City rental that looked like a simple tub spout job on paper. It was a tenant place, and the landlord was out of the country, so they needed a local outfit they could trust. Another plumber had already tried to stop the leak about a month earlier, but the water kept coming and it only got worse.

Once we got eyes on it, we could tell the tub spout had never been installed right in the first place. That poor fit led to a crack and real damage. What made it interesting is this was a diverter-style spout, the kind where the shower riser sits outside the wall. A lot of historic homes around Salt Lake City still have that setup, and plenty of modern plumbers just are not set up to deal with it cleanly.

We pulled the failed spout, confirmed the damage at the connection, and leaned on our specialty suppliers to source the right diverter tub spout fast. Parts and labor went in the same day so the tenant was not left waiting. We got the new spout seated correctly, tied the diverter and outside riser back in the way they belong, and shut the leak down for good. That took care of the problem once and for all.
