We got called out in Salt Lake City because a Rinnai tankless water heater was beeping and throwing an error code. These units can be picky, but we work on them all the time. We brought the manometer, combustion analyzer, and multimeter so we could see what was really going on instead of guessing at the beeps.

Once we opened it up and ran the diagnostics, it was clear the burner was not lighting correctly. That is the point where the job got interesting. A weak or dirty burner and a worn flame rod will keep a Rinnai RUR199iN from staying in lock and will keep throwing codes no matter how many times you reset it.

We replaced the burner and the igniter flame rod assembly, cleaned up the related connections, and took care of the vent screens while we were in there. After the parts were in, we fired the unit and checked combustion so we knew the flame was clean and stable.

We thoroughly tested everything once we were done to make sure it would last. The heater quit beeping, hot water came back steady, and the homeowner had a working Rinnai again.
