We got called out to Draper because this customer’s outdoor hose bib would not shut off. I determined replacement was the best option, so we shut the water down and pulled the old frost-free bib. That old silver unit with the green handle had clearly given up.

What made the job interesting was finding polybutylene pipe inside the wall—an unfortunate discontinued material. After cutting into the wall we could see the supply run clearly, and we were able to source the correct adapters so the new frost-free bib would tie in cleanly to what was already there.

We installed the new bib, connected it to the existing serviceable piping, restored water, and tested for leaks and proper shutoff. We finished it off with an access panel so there was no full sheetrock replacement needed and easy access in the future. Flapper work and a toilet tune-up rounded out the visit, and the hose bib finally shut off the way it should.
