In Sandy, Utah we handled a hose bib replacement for a landlord. The outdoor frost-free bib had been faulty for years. A tenant who liked landscaping wanted to use the faucet, and every turn-on brought leaks and trouble, so they chose to replace it.
The work was not simple. The interior connection was under a finished basement in a very tight corner. We shut off the water, got to the serviceable piping, pulled the old frost-free hose bib, and set a new standard frost-free bib on the existing lines.
We cut a neat square for access rather than leaving a battered opening. A 14×14 access panel covered the hole, so sheetrock repair was unnecessary. We secured and sealed the new bib properly, which the old one had not been.
We used a Woodford Standard Model, common across Utah, for straightforward future parts. Water went back on, we tested for leaks, and we verified proper operation.
