## Where regulators fail
Water passes a small opening inside the regulator. Debris at that opening can prevent a tight shutoff. A blocked inlet screen can restrict flow. The diaphragm, spring and stem must move freely together for pressure to stay steady as taps open and close.
Outside leakage deserves its own inspection. A union gasket, threaded connection, body or spring cover can be the source. Water escaping from the cover can indicate a diaphragm problem. Trace the first wet point before deciding what needs replacement.

## A repair kit or a complete valve
An accessible, sound valve with available parts can sometimes be rebuilt. The service kit may include a diaphragm, disc, seat, seals and screen. The brand, model, size and series identify the correct parts.
Replacement makes sense when the casting is damaged, corrosion has compromised the assembly, parts are unavailable or previous repairs have not restored stable operation. It also gives us a chance to improve an awkward connection and make future service easier.

## Choose for the house's demand
Pipe size is one part of choosing a regulator. The valve also needs the right inlet-pressure rating, outlet adjustment range and capacity for the water the home uses at once. An undersized regulator can look fine at rest and lose too much pressure during use.
We check the manufacturer's flow information against the house and supply conditions. A large pressure reduction may need a different valve or staged reduction to manage noise and wear. Potable-water suitability and compatible connections belong in that selection.

04 / PRV repair & replacement
## What happens during the visit
We locate a working upstream shutoff, measure the pressure and identify the fault. If the house valve will not isolate the work, the water provider may need to shut off the service outside. The quote should account for that access and for any damaged adjoining pipe.
After isolating and draining the section, we service or replace the regulator, clean and reconnect the assembly, then restore water gradually. We check every disturbed joint for leaks, set the outlet using a gauge and run fixtures to verify delivery.
The final check includes pressure stability after taps close and the condition of the thermal-expansion arrangement. You should know the final setting and where the main shutoff is.

05 / PRV repair & replacement
## What adjustment can fix
An adjustment changes the spring setting on a working regulator. On common screw-adjusted models, turning clockwise raises the setting and counterclockwise lowers it. The exact procedure comes from the valve's instructions and requires a gauge.
A higher setting cannot restore a clogged pipe or repair a leaking seat. Before changing it, establish the incoming pressure and test the valve under flow. Avoid turning an unidentified or corroded adjustment screw by guesswork.

They work together near the water entry. The shutoff lets you stop water for service or an emergency. The regulator automatically controls pressure while the supply is on.

The regulator controls incoming supply pressure. An expansion tank accepts the extra volume created when stored water heats up. A home can need both.

The section containing the regulator must be isolated and depressurized. Most homes lose water during that part of the visit; we restore it and test the system before finishing.
