14,057 ÷ 18,820 = 74.69%. We joined 2025 county assessor records to county address points inside the city boundary, keeping one address per parcel, housing units above zero and valid construction years. Twelve invalid years were excluded.
Within the city sample, median years are 1957 for ZIP 84109, 1958 for 84106 and 1963 for 84124. These are city-only slices, not whole ZIP codes. We count parcels, not individual apartments; construction dates do not identify today’s pipe materials.

## When the homes outgrew the sewers.
Veteran Heights · Canyon Rim · 1952–53
From the city’s
historic survey
Veteran Heights was built for families returning from World War II. The homes initially relied on individual septic systems. After the wet year of 1951 raised the water table, sewage began backing into basements.
Residents of Veteran Heights and nearby Lakeview sought a connection to Salt Lake City’s sewer. The temporary arrangement cost **$2 per house each month**. Construction began in 1952 and finished by the end of 1953.

### 1934: a well near White Ditch helped get drinking water through a drought.
The Mill Creek Well was completed in March 1934 near White Ditch’s headgates. It produced 2.8 cubic feet of water per second. That water supplied exchange farmers, allowing more creek water to go into the drinking-water system.
The city’s account shows why Millcreek’s ditches and drinking water have a shared history even though they serve different purposes.

### How we drew the map
We overlaid the 18,820-parcel housing sample on Utah’s 2024-reporting-year culinary service boundaries for the three providers in Millcreek’s directory. There were no overlaps; 141 addresses fell outside all three polygons. Boundary records can lag service changes.

East Millcreek Water Company still delivers irrigation water to shareholders. Its 2026 notices say water starts only after the watermasters have checked that the main ditches and laterals are clear.
Before moving a sprinkler connection or removing an old line during a remodel, find out what it serves. Irrigation water must stay separate from the drinking-water supply.

### Do you handle small plumbing repairs in Millcreek?

### What should I do about an active leak?
Call or text (385) 766-8935. If you can safely reach a working fixture shutoff or the house main, close it to stop the supply. A street-main or utility-meter problem belongs with the water provider; the city’s utility directory lists the contacts.
### Can I get a second opinion or spread out the cost?

### Water comes up out of the washing machine standpipe. Before you snake it, find out if the drain can breathe.
A washing machine doesn't drain, it pumps, and a top-loader pushes up to 17 gallons a minute into a pipe that has to take every bit of it. Ten minutes with a five-gallon bucket tells you whether the line is actually blocked or just can't get air, and those two need opposite repairs.
