This Sandy homeowner reached out while in the middle of a full home remodel. During the project he discovered something that a lot of people do not notice until it becomes a problem. The new flooring they installed was much thinner than the original flooring, and the old floor drain was now sitting far too high. It stuck up above the finished surface and nothing about it was level, safe, or usable.He said he had already talked with a few plumbers and most of them would not even give it a chance. They wanted nothing to do with a small, detailed project like this. I explained that most plumbing companies push those jobs aside because they are built for bigger ticket work and do not have time for anything that requires patience. Mountain Man Plumbing is the opposite. We are built for these jobs. Our business model is optimized to handle small repairs and detailed work efficiently, cleanly, and without disrupting the rest of the remodel.Once I pulled the old drain assembly, it became clear why the new floor was causing issues. The drain was set for the original flooring height and the change in material made it sit far too high. Leaving it like that would have caused trip hazards, drainage problems, and risked damaging the new finish if anyone ever tried to force a fix. We removed the failing drain, cleaned out the line, and inspected everything underneath to make sure nothing had been compromised during the remodel.From there we installed a new stainless repair flange to create a solid, level base. This allowed the new drain to sit perfectly flush with the thinner flooring without putting stress on the subfloor or the plumbing line below. Once everything was secured, we installed a modern floor drain that matched the new flooring thickness and gave the entire area a clean, updated look. The homeowner was relieved that we were able to solve the problem without cutting out extra flooring or damaging any of the freshly installed materials.In the end, he told me he was glad he kept searching until he found us.
