The tank stores it; compressed air behind a flexible diaphragm pushes it to the faucet. A full reserve fills glasses quickly, but several big draws can empty it. **Usable storage depends on pressure.** Part of the tank holds the air cushion that pushes water to the faucet. Ask how much water you can draw before waiting for a refill. ### Tankless saves tank space. It makes treated water on demand and commonly uses an electric pump. You still need space for the unit, cartridge access, a drain and usually an outlet. Compare actual faucet flow and refrigerator compatibility. The membrane’s gallons-per-day rating describes production under its test conditions. The storage tank supplies the faster flow when you fill a glass.
