We checked county property records inside today’s city boundary. The **1970s account for 6,328 residential parcels**—more than any other decade. Add the 1980s and that becomes **9,950 parcels, nearly two-thirds of the sample**. Those ’70s houses are now roughly 47 to 56 years old. A new shower, a better laundry setup or another bathroom can make a house you already like work better for your family. We handle the plumbing for those changes: the water lines, drains, vents and final fixture hookups. At the Taylorsville-Bennion Heritage Center, the little pump house is an original part of the property. The National Register nomination dates it to **1906, the same year as the Gerrard home**. Several other small buildings were moved onto the grounds later for museum displays. The pump house belongs there. It sits north of the home, with clapboard siding, a low hipped roof and two windows. Inside the museum, the city highlights an original claw-foot bathtub and a pull-chain water closet. Taylorsville-Bennion Improvement District formed in 1957. In 1965, Westside Water was dissolved and divided between the district and West Jordan. That happened decades before Taylorsville incorporated in 1996. The city and district still have different boundaries. In 1855, Joseph Harker and brothers John and Samuel Bennion dug the Lower Ditch by hand to water farmland west of the Jordan River. A small rock dam near 6300 South sent water north, along the edges of what is now Millrace Park. Then the ditch got another job. In 1880, its water powered a new gristmill near 4800 South. That’s where the name **Millrace** came from. Water diverted for crops was supplying power to grind grain, too. The route is recorded on the local Sons of Utah Pioneers’ 2005 historic marker.
