Its design standards allow supply pressures of 55 to 110 psi. The pressure regulator at your home reduces incoming pressure for the plumbing inside. We measure what reaches your fixtures, then check how that reading changes when water is running. One weak faucet may have a plugged screen. Several weak fixtures can point to a restriction at a shutoff, filter or regulator. Reported in the city’s 2025 water plan. The city uses meter readings to flag continuous water use. A notice means water kept moving, but it doesn’t tell you where. A running toilet, irrigation cycle or softener stuck draining can all leave a trail in the usage history. Look at the portal’s hourly readings alongside your watering and softener schedules. South Jordan offers free leak checks. We measure the incoming hardness before setting the softener, then test the treated water. Salt in the brine tank alone doesn’t prove it’s working. Hardness describes calcium and magnesium. Part of South Jordan has secondary irrigation water, fed mainly by Utah Lake through canals. Its pressure changes with elevation, canal levels and how many people are watering. If the sprinklers lose water while the kitchen tap works, check which supply serves the yard. One bad hookup can affect the neighbors too. The city lists drinking-water hardness at 7 to 10 grains per gallon. We measure the water at your house before setting a softener, and check treated water too if a softener is already installed. The city’s range is useful background, but it doesn’t tell us whether your equipment is working. ### Can I connect drinking water to my secondary irrigation line? Do not join the two supplies with a hose or a permanent pipe. That cross-connection can send untreated irrigation water into the drinking supply when pressures change. South Jordan requires a manual disconnect, swing-joint connection and RP backflow assembly for a dual-source irrigation arrangement, with annual assembly testing. Testable assemblies and certified testing go to a backflow specialist. ### Do I need a permit for a water heater or basement bathroom? South Jordan lists permits for new water heaters and basement finishes. For a basement remodel, the plans need to show the plumbing fixtures and equipment locations.
