### The 1970s left a lot of houses here.
The largest building decade in our Murray study was the **1970s: 4,431 residential parcels**. Across the whole sample, nearly two thirds were built before 1980.
We repair older fixture valves, replace leaking supply piping and install plumbing for updated kitchens and bathrooms. You don’t need a full remodel to book a repair.

### Local wells. Hard water.
Murray City Water draws from deep wells and McGhie Springs near Big Cottonwood Canyon. Its 2025 water-quality report lists average hardness of **194 mg/L, or 11.4 grains per gallon**.
If you’re adding a softener or replacing one, we can test the incoming water, size the equipment and install the connections. The published average is useful background; the water entering your house is what we set the equipment for.

### Cast iron is still part of the picture.
Our June 2026 map snapshot includes **about 25 miles of city-owned water main labeled cast iron**. That’s about 18% of the 142.5 mapped miles marked as Murray-owned.
Most of the mapped mileage is ductile iron, including pipe recorded as polywrapped. Murray’s own conservation page describes an ongoing main-replacement program.
Those are the utility’s mains. For the plumbing in your house, Mountain Man handles leak repairs, shutoffs, pressure regulators and repiping.

We measured the mapped line geometry for 6,028 records whose Owner field is MURRAY in the public Water Mains layer, archived June 2, 2026. Cast iron (CI): 892 segments, totaling 25.03 miles. DI and DIPW together total 112.96 miles.

## Yes, the main was made of wood.
Murray’s 1911 Sanborn map describes a **12-inch wooden main** carrying water from a reservoir toward town, then cast-iron mains serving 28 double hydrants. The note is printed right on sheet 1.

### Do you handle small plumbing repairs in Murray?

Yes. We can plan and install the water, drain and vent connections. Murray’s residential remodel checklist calls for a Second Kitchen Covenant or ADU approval from Planning & Zoning when a kitchen is added. We can discuss the plumbing scope while you work through the city’s approval process.
### Can you work with a landlord or condo association?
Yes. Let us know who can authorize the work and whether the building needs a shared water shutdown. We can coordinate the plumbing visit with the owner, manager or association.
