Meet the plumber behind Mountain Man
## Lehi runs in the family.
Mountain Man is owned by Utah master plumber Tyler Nerdin. Before starting the company, he spent nearly a decade in new-construction plumbing, followed by three years in commercial repairs. He stays hands-on with the work and oversees the company’s jobs.
His grandmother, **Margaret**, was a lifelong Lehi resident who taught at Sego Lily Elementary and later tutored at the Lehi Literacy Center. His grandfather, **Paul**, worked at Lehi Roller Mills.
The family story goes further back: **Martin and Elizabeth Bushman settled in Lehi in 1851.** Their family record tells of twenty acres and their first experience farming with irrigation. Tyler descends from that family through Margaret.

A Lehi detail worth knowing
## The second water system does more than water lawns.
Lehi built its dual culinary and pressurized-irrigation system in **1990**. The city’s 2019 water plan documents an unusual extra job for the irrigation network: **year-round fire protection**.
01
### Drinking water
The culinary supply feeds your kitchen, bathrooms and water heater. This is the system we’re working on when we replace a pressure regulator, install a softener or repair a supply pipe.

02
### Irrigation water
A hydrant connection does not make this drinking water. Keep the two supplies separate. A pipe or hose joining them creates a route for irrigation water to enter the drinking supply.

### Check them together.
Lehi links to an AWWA homeowner guide about a pressure problem a new valve can expose. When a check valve or regulator stops heated water from pushing back toward the supply, the expanding water needs somewhere to go. That’s the expansion tank’s job.
When servicing that equipment, we check the house pressure and the expansion tank together. The heater’s relief valve is a separate safety device—not a substitute for expansion control.

### Before the mains
This insurance map lists Lehi’s water facilities as irrigation ditches, private wells and artesian wells. It even marks an artesian well among the town’s buildings. You can see the water supply on the same sheet as the homes and businesses.

### Spring water comes home
Gardner describes a new system carrying water from School House Springs near Alpine to a **320,000-gallon settling tank** north of Lehi. Street conduits brought that water into homes in 1909.

### Wood gives way to iron—on the ballot
In August 1934, Lehi asked voters to fund **cast-iron replacements for its wood-stave water mains**. The bond notice also called for upgrading some two-inch galvanized lines and two-inch fire hydrants to four inches.

One familiar name in the old water records: Martin Bushman, an ancestor of Tyler’s, petitioned Lehi for payment for ditch cleaning in 1854. It’s in the council minutes ↗

We got called out to Draper because this customer’s outdoor hose bib would not shut off. I determined replacement was the best option, so we shut the water down and pulled the old frost-free bib.

Lehi plumbing questions
## Before you book.

- Lehi Building & Inspections ↗
- Lehi Water Department ↗
### What plumbing work do you do in Lehi?
We repair and replace water heaters, pressure regulators, shutoff valves, toilets, faucets, shower valves and garbage disposals. We also clear household drains, service water softeners, repair piping and install water, drain and vent lines for remodels and basement bathrooms.
### Can you work on an older home or finish a basement bathroom?
Yes. We handle repairs to existing plumbing as well as new bathroom and kitchen plumbing. For a basement finish, we work through the fixture locations, drain and vent connections, water supply and access before pricing the job. Lehi Building and Inspections is the city’s permit and inspection authority.
### Why check the expansion tank when replacing a pressure regulator?
When a check valve or regulator prevents heated water from pushing back toward the supply, pressure can rise as the water heater heats. We check the expansion tank and pressure together. The heater’s temperature-and-pressure relief valve is a safety device; its discharge must never be plugged.
### Can my irrigation supply be connected to the house water?
No. Lehi has separate culinary and pressurized-irrigation systems. Irrigation water is not drinking water. A connection between the two can contaminate the drinking supply. Have questionable connections identified and corrected; do not join the systems with a pipe or hose.
### How do I arrange a plumbing visit in Lehi?
Call or text Mountain Man at (385) 766-8935, or use Book online to see the available booking options. Tell us what needs work and the service address. For a plumbing emergency involving city mains, contact Lehi’s Water Department. Our current call/text hours are shown at the top of this page.
### Can I get another quote reviewed or finance the repair?
Yes. Our second-opinion tool lets you send an existing plumbing quote for review. Wisetack payment options are available for eligible work, subject to credit approval and varying terms. We agree on the work and price before starting.
